Domain name

A Domain Name is a unique identifier of your web site, usually the part that shows up after http://www. in the browser address field. Domain names have an extension, where .com .net and .org are the most popular ones. The extension part of the domain name is also called top domain.

The purpose of having your own domain name is to provide an easily recognizable and memorizable address to your website. You can also use your domain name to create easily recognizable email addresses, like info@mydomainname.com.

Your domain name is tied to name servers, which direct to an IP address of the server where your website is hosted.
